1:1 medical billing Training
Insurance billing can feel overwhelming when you are trying to piece together information from payer websites, Facebook groups, list serves, EHR help articles, and advice that may or may not apply to your practice. There is also a lot of fear mongering that exists in our community of mental health professionals about billing.
Our 1:1 medical billing training is designed for behavioral health providers who want to manage their own billing with more confidence. Rather than giving you a generic overview of medical billing, we work with your actual practice, payer mix, systems, and level of experience so you can focus on the information that is relevant to you.
Training Built Around Your Practice
There is no need to spend time learning things you already know or information that does not apply to your practice.
Training sessions are individualized based on where you are starting and what you want to accomplish. We can work through your EHR, insurance portals, existing claims, or billing workflow together and focus on the areas where you need the most support.
Topics may include:
Understanding the claim submission process from start to finish
Choosing and using behavioral health CPT codes
Insurance verification and eligibility
Understanding EOBs and ERAs
Payment posting and reconciliation
Identifying and correcting claim rejections
Denials, appeals, and claim follow-up
Telehealth billing requirements
Navigating payer portals and insurance requirements
Creating a system for tracking outstanding claims
Understanding credentialing and payer enrollment
Developing a billing workflow that works for your practice
If there is a specific billing issue you are struggling with, we can also use training time to work through it together.
Learn the “Why,” Not Just the Steps
Knowing which buttons to click is useful. Understanding why you are clicking them makes it much easier to troubleshoot when something does not go according to plan.
Our training focuses on helping you understand how billing works—not simply memorizing a set of instructions. We explain the reasoning behind claim decisions, payer requirements, denials, and workflows so you can apply what you learn when new situations arise.
Our teaching style is practical, nonjudgmental, and informed by a neurodivergent lens. We break complicated processes into manageable pieces, explain things in plain language, and encourage questions without assuming you should already know the answer.
The goal is not to make you dependent on us. It is to help you feel capable of managing and understanding your own billing.
Who Is 1:1 Billing Training For?
Individual billing training can be helpful whether you plan to manage billing yourself or want to build the knowledge and systems within your practice.
Training may be a good fit if you are:
Opening an insurance-based private practice for the first time
Leaving a group practice or third-party platform and preparing to bill independently
Already submitting your own claims but unsure whether you are doing everything correctly
Frequently running into rejections or denials you do not understand
Bringing billing in-house for your practice
A group practice owner who wants to train an administrative team member to manage billing internally
An administrator or staff member taking on billing responsibilities for a practice
Looking for support with a specific billing problem rather than ongoing billing services
For group practices, we can also work directly with the person who will be responsible for billing rather than requiring the practice owner to learn and then teach the process themselves. Training can be tailored to your practice’s existing systems, payer mix, and workflows so your administrative team learns how to manage the billing they will actually encounter.
You do not need to start from scratch. Training can be as introductory or as advanced as your practice requires.
Training or Done-for-You Billing?
Some practice owners want to understand and manage every part of their billing. Others would rather hand it off completely.
Both are reasonable.
If you want to remain in control of your billing but need the knowledge and systems to do it confidently, 1:1 training may be the right fit. If you would rather spend your time elsewhere and have someone manage the process for you, we also offer ongoing billing services.
Not sure which makes more sense? We can talk through your practice and help you decide.
Ready to Feel More Confident About Billing?
You do not need to become a professional biller to understand what is happening with your claims.
Whether you are learning insurance billing for the first time or trying to fill in the gaps in what you already know, we can meet you where you are and focus on what will be most useful for your practice.
